Reasons not to restrict

  • Your entire happiness does not hinge on being x stones lighter.

  • The problem isn't about food or weight. Look at what is really the problem- what has triggered this feeling?

  • If you listen to this voice the eating disorder (ed) has won.

  • Every 'target' will just get lower- first it will be x lbs, then xx lbs- you won't be happy.

  • What is sinking further into ed behaviours going to achieve- more misery?

  • There's a choice- either you can continue on the path of self-destruction with no chance of being happy with yourself or you can choose recovery and see what that brings.

  • How can you judge the success of a day on how much you have eaten or what the scale says?

  • People don't care how much you weigh. You are the only person who gives a damn.

  • You will feel permanently tired and have seriously impaired concentration.

  • You will get dizziness because of low blood sugar.

  • With these side-effects you will be less able to deal with the actual problem and so it is just a vicious circle.

  • You deprive the body of nutrients it needs.

  • Your body needs food in order to function properly.

  • It doesn't deal with the actual problem- it just covers it up. The pain will build up and you will have to deal with it sometime.

  • It doesn't help you, it just hurts you.

  • It can kill you.
